● celebrate words!

word collector week — march 2-6, 2026

word collector week (first week of march) is an annual global celebration of language and expression, inspired by peter h. reynolds’ the word collector. each day invites students to explore, collect, and share words in fun and imaginative ways.

throughout the week, students and teachers become word collectors, discovering the joy of learning and sharing new words.

celebrate each day with something splendiferous— here are our ideas!

● day 1: word parade

wear a word that you love and want to share!

● day 2: wild word play

create a “wild word” bracelet or play a word game like sight word bingo or bananagrams jr.!

● day 3: sensory words

dig for “construction words” in sand, squish alphabet playdough to form new words, or collect “juicy words” to fill a pretend juice container.

● day 4: gift of words tree

hang words of inspiration on a classroom “gift of words” tree for everyone to enjoy

● day 5: happy mail

put your words into action by writing a letter to a friend, grandparent, or a meaningful organization like love for our elders.
