FETC Workshop: Make to Learn: An Easy, Affordable Onramp to STEAM

Join the Paul Reynolds and Peggy Stearns for a FabMaker Workshop at FECT 2019! During their workshop: Make to Learn: An Easy, Affordable Onramp to STEAM, on Monday, Jan. 28, discover how schools nationwide are using easy, affordable tools to engage young learners in STEM/STEAM and the engineering design process. While buzz swirls around 3D printing, many educators are embracing a low-cost alternative — paper and cardstock, inexpensive digital cutters, and easy CAD software — to introduce teachers and students to digital design and making. Learn how K-8 students engineer unique projects from simple to sophisticated, including pop-ups, 3D objects, working machines, and electronics. Get inspiration from schools, libraries, and community centers around the country. Leave with ideas for curriculum integration.

Paul Reynolds will keynote the iSTEAM conference January 11, 2019.

iSTEAM 2019 will provide participants a uniquely interactive and engaging conference experience - gain new and innovative ideas to promote the integration of STEAM and foster essential 21st century competencies across all grade levels.

Also that day, Andrea Calvin will host the breakout session “Paper Prototyping for STEAM-Powered Learning,” where attendees can get hands-on with Fab@School Maker Studio.

Universal Children's Day

At Bridgewater State University's College of Education & Allied Studies, in collaboration with the Childhood Studies Minor Program and other academic and administrative departments on campus, is conducting a daylong celebration of the United Nations’ Universal Children’s Day on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018. 

For the third year, Paul A. Reynolds will keynote the day which welcomes 250 third graders from Brockton elementary schools.

Paul’s keynote will focus on about creative problem solving, based on his book, Sydney and Simon’s Full Steam Ahead, which he co-authored with his twin brother, Peter H. Reynolds. Andrea Calvin will be leading a creative writing workshop

Established in 1954, United Nations Universal Children’s Day is celebrated on November 20th each year. The day is set as a reminder to bring awareness to improving the welfare of all children and promoting international togetherness.

From kindergarten to high school, discover how schools, libraries, and programs around the country have used Fab@School Maker Studio to create practical, affordable makerspaces using paper, cardstock, and inexpensive digital fabricators. This session provides hands-on opportunities for getting comfortable with easy, paper-based digital design and fabrication software tools. Participants experience the benefits of rapid paper prototyping, which allows for quick cycles of testing and iterative design enhancements - especially helpful within limited class periods. Explore research-based best practices, appropriate to get all students (PreK-12) designing and creating. We encourage participants to bring their devices.

Get ready to Create Bravely with Paul Reynolds at the Teaching Channel TeamsFest 2018 Friday Breakfast on Friday, May 18 at 8 a.m.

TeamsFest is Teaching Channel's annual conference. It is geared toward the use of Teaching Channel resources, but the topics covered are very generalizable to any educators that use video and online environments for professional learning. This year we are digging deep into video analysis and observation, leading change from the middle, and program/initiative building using design thinking. TeamsFest runs May 17 & 18 with an opening night reception on May 16.
